My Beauty Room | Transformation

After buying our first home in 2019, one of the things I was most excited for was having a whole room dedicated to my passion for all things beauty! I had been a qualified beauty therapist for a few years and the thought of setting up a mini salon in my home was super exciting.

The house we bought was a bit of a doer upper, not structurally but cosmetically there was a lot of work to do. We ripped up all floors and had a blank canvas to start with, meaning I was able to chose everything from the floors and skirting boards, to the light fixtures.

It is the box room in the house, so I wasn’t working with a lot of space but knew I wanted a nail desk, makeup station and somewhere to leave the beauty bed up full time for other treatments.

I found Pinterest so helpful for layout ideas, when you look into it there are SO many home beauty salons to take inspo from. One thing I took away from Pinterest was the Dalmation print wall which was just starting to make an appearance at the time (although is super popular now!!) As soon as the floor was down and walls freshly painted I knew this was the next step! I actually bought some vinyl spots from Etsy to do the wall, but after watching a few YouTube videos we purchased a stencil to do the job. We got the stencil from IdealStencils and decided to go for the Large size. Honestly we found it a little tricky to manage and in the end started freehanding the spots to finish of. If I was to do it again I would definitely just do it freehand. It turned out ‘unique’ with some mess ups and splodges but I couldn’t tell you the number of people who have complimented the ‘wallpaper’ so I guess it worked out ok!

I previously had a wobbly portable foldaway nail desk so the thought of upgrading to an Ikea table for nails was fab. I used SalonGeek for reviews and advice on what table to go for – some can be too narrow or wide/no storage space/ too low etc. In the end I went for the Besta Burs white table that had storage drawers & got the glass top to finish. I then ordered two swivel chairs in the dark grey and white colour to tone in with the crazy wall.

When it came to the beauty station, I had known exactly what I wanted for ages – the floating Ekby Alex Shelf and IKEA holywood mirror set up – using this mirror and these lights. I picked up my makeup chair on clearance from TK Maxx a few months before moving in.

I had the coveted Alex 9 drawer unit from my parents house and they are perfect for storing beauty and nail supplies. A lot of the items in the room came from Ikea, it was convenient to get everything from the same place and for a good price – the only realy negative being the work involved in building some of the items – thankfully I had help.

My beauty bed was kindly passed down from my aunty, it was placed in the corner of the room ready for treatments, with this black trolley for my wax pot and facial products.

Other items I picked up for the room –
Storage boxes
Spare bulbs for the mirror
Makeup brush holders – Similar Alternative
Neon flamingo light
Grey blankets – alternative
Eyelash wall decals

Below is a quick video overview of the complete room! I love it and have got so many compliments from my clients too. I have tried to cover everything in this post but should there be anything I’ve missed please feel free to leave a comment or message me and I will get back to you!
